    hellooo
i love it cuz actually im crazy about advertising … oh and i get really upset if i saw an adv 7ada ma2sawe and not to the point and lacks creativity .

i agree about el advertisment it will help the product and the selling system for sure.. but it must be smart and creative .. and the onse in newspapers like *alwase6* really neads a designer .. y3ne may9er i have like someone having an advert. for his skills in designs and the advert itself lacks the skills .. get me ?
oh and another way of advertising is by the radio stations .. and man those are another story ! .. they are all similar in ideas (either its a friend calling a friend by phone and he/she is crazy about the product and goes on telling the other one about it and then the other parts hangs up without saying bye y3ne msta3yel yabel el product ) PaLeeZ !
.. the language is so bad at times .. and if the product was in english they have it pronunced like in arabic english ..

so again advertisment is a whole another world by its own .. it sure will help the product .. and the idea in it will grap ppl like magic ..

thanks alot again Dr.Borashid and Ali
and i would be happy doing adverts for you guys ..
deera chat is home and everyone wants to help home .. right ;) let me know :)

Bedoor: Thanks for the comment. Let me tell you just this, advertisement is the most important element of today’s successful business but unfortunately is controlled by a group of mafia here and almost anywhere else. Pricing is just crazy because they know even a pen seller will need to advertise somehow for his pens. Now there are other ways and maybe cheaper to do it that we didn’t cover, but when it comes to promoting your goods, sky is the limit. Cheers ;)

    heh…

3ala obo ina printing and installation takes a huge chunk of money, us prof. designers get underpayed most of the times…

  5. Dr. Bo Rashid Says:

ray: I have to agree with you because in my line of business, I deal with designers quite often and some of them are underpaid to be honest. I think you should talk to Bedoor because she is a designer as well and maybe the two of you could form a company. Thanks for the comment. Cheers :)

I love the way you explained the psychology of the Advertisements! Not many realize that!

For example; I try so much to explain to my client about how it’s not so good to get their hair colored with those cheap supermarket’s hair tints! They don’t believe me so much because of all the commercials going on… I don’t blame them if it’s the first thing you notice on TVs and every where else!

It very true, if any one planning for businesses they have to think of the advertisements as one of the major point before even starting the business!

Thank you guys for the good work! :)

  10. Dr. Bo Rashid Says:

noracassandra: Thank you as always for the comment. I still think you should consider coming back to Kuwait one day because we need people of your way of thinking. You are so right and I think you will like our next episode. Cheers :)

  11. ray Says:

    bo rashed,

u see, the problem is with those who think of themselves as designers. they’re invading the market, being able to use a couple a softwared doesn’t qualify u to design anything.

they’re doing cheap designs, low quality and low cost which is effecting the real designers.

  12. Dr. Bo Rashid Says:

Ray: A real company will only go after real designers so you should blame the companies that choose non-professionals to get cheaper prices. I wonder if you don’t mind showing us some of your designs. Cheers

  13. ray Says:

    dr. bo rashed,

most companies hire immature designers.. and yes they are the ones who should take the blame.

    about showing my designs,
i wish i can, but i’m kinda like not allowed to show my designs in a public space anymore (i’m assuming that blogs are considered as a public space here) :P ,5 of my designs got stolen this year and i gotta more cautious

  14. Dr. Bo Rashid Says:

Ray: You better be careful then although I still wish there was a way to look at them because in my line of business we deal with designers and maybe we can have your expertise. Cheers and good luck :)

  15. ray Says:

    *i gotta be more cautious

u can contact me by email if u want, we might find a way.

Im kuwaiti and im in the Advertising industry, and its not as simple as it sounds. you *can not* be as creative as you can. There are alot of boundiries, plus the client has to have a say which is totally wrong. the client could say his opinion and could say a YES or a No but he should not dictate to the agency what to do. As a whole of a Kuwaiti body in the advertising industry maybe we are 20 people, ok ill exagerate and say we are 30 kuwaities in the advertising industry. whos fault is it ? not the kuwaiti, cause we have alot of marvilous talents. The agency ? offcourse not, cause they will hire anyone who they would profit from. I blame it on kuwait’s university ! for not foreseeing the future of such an investment. when i went to university i never new what was graphic design ! until i looked into their classes and pushed myself into it. Old Friends of my dad they used to tell me are you serious ur studying design ? study business kuwaities are managers.

Back to the creativity part. Dont throw it on the poor designer, he is trying his best, no company would want a bad advert to come out of their side, but sometimes the client loves the layout but he wont buy it unless the background has orange and brown / he see’s it right, he is the client.
we need to educate some clients, we need to convince the client that the kuwaiti consumer is not stupid, and he absorbs creativity. there is no need to spoon feed the idea to the consumer (if it was in the right direction offcourse).
… and it goes on and on and on…sorry to take up a bit of space in my comment.

    thanks alot

  17. Dr. Bo Rashid Says:

Random: Thanks for the comment. I totally agree with you that designing business is not simple, but I still blame the designers especially the Kuwaiti ones. I mean the fact that three of our listeners are professional designers tell so much about how much talent we have in this country. All I am trying to say is that we should control our destiny and not let companies and establishments who are after cheap rather than quality to control it. I am so proud of all of you guys although we don’t know each other personally. I think a designer is more an artist than just a computer that answers to the commands given by people and for that; I think a professional designer should control his art and ideas by convincing companies to his art. Again I am glad we got so many professional comments in this episode and hope we get some more. I respect your profession so much and really appreciate your talent. Please keep the comments coming and keep on listening to our episodes. Cheers

Thank you Dr. Bo Rashid!! I don’t think I’ll be coming to Kuwait ever for more than a visit!

My husband is working with his brother at their father’s restaurant! So I won’t think he’ll be leaving their business to go to country that he can’t even talk their language! We won’t fit there any way! ;)
But I hope some day I’ll have a chance to show him my roots! ;)
I’ll be waiting for you next subject that I’m sure it’ll be great as usual! :)

  19. Dr. Bo Rashid Says:

noracassandra: Well it will be my pleasure to welcome you in Kuwait along with your husband. I hope you like our next episode and look forward to have your valued comments as always. Cheers :)

  20. Random Says:

Thanks alot for this episode. I agree with you, the designer and the agency takes the blame as well, but we cant but blame the client. let me put it out this way, Agencies compete against each other, cause there are alot of Award ceremonies taking place lately, in kuwait and out of kuwait. Agencies in kuwait are hungry for awards, they are drooling, and i proudly say ! and please do allow me to type it in caps. KUWAIT GOT THE FIRST GOLDEN LION FROM CANNES AWARDS AMONGST THE ARAB REGION ( Cannes Awards are like the advertising oscars). but its ashame we dont get to appreciate each others work, or even identity. for example. the other day i was at the adeaters ! u cant imagine how people act over there, every individual thinks he is a walking picasso, these events are made for exposure, socializing, and having a look whats going on in the industry.

on a positive notice, i see it comming, alot of kuwaiti designer are excelling, and shinning. but we need time.. the advertising industry is going to be back in the talented kuwaiti hands !

    latest Advertising awards
    Lynx : http://www.dubailynx.com
unfortunatly kuwait was nominated but didnt win anything.. so sad..

another good site for Ads done in kuwait,
    http://www.ads2blog.com
people from all the advertising agencies in kuwait get to discuss some of the latest work. the good part is when the designer see’s how people react to his designs !

once again thanks and best of luck to the upcomming episodes

  21. Dr. Bo Rashid Says:

Random: Couldn’t agree with you more. Cheers :)
